Happy Birthday Ramps

Wednesday 3rd September 2008

Although the first team are currently ensconced in a warm dressing room watching the rain pour in Canterbury, September 5 is actually a very special day for one of the biggest stars of Surrey Cricket Mark Ramprakash.

Ramps, a long term favourite of all Brown Caps fans, is today celebrating his 39th birthday.

Sadly, with weather forecasts as they are, it is unlikely that he will be able to celebrate by making his 103rd First Class century, but everybody at the Brit Oval wishes him a very happy birthday nonetheless!

If you add up every run Ramprakash has scored in First Class, One Day and Twenty20 cricket, he has scored an average of 1,164 runs in every year of his life.

When you bear in mind that he only made his debut at the highest level when he was eighteen, he has managed a mind bending average of 2,161 runs for every year of his professional career.

With Ramps far from finished with the modern game, the simple fact is that these stats are likely to continue getting even better.

Celebrations Down Under

Also celebrating today is Surrey's former County Championship winning captain Adam Hollioake, who is 37.

Hollioake, now living the good life in Australia, is widely recognised as one of the great Surrey skippers of the modern age.

During his career, Adam led Surrey to the County Championship titles in 1999, 2000 and 2002 and also lifted the Champions Trophy as England One Day captain in 1997.

Again, everyone at Guildfordeye wishes Adam a very happy birthday!
